On Saturday 27 June 2009, I'm running the Not Since Moses 10K. The run takes place in the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia, Canada, which has some of the world's highest tides - up to 15 metres.

Once a year, the waters part enough to host a run around some of the islands in the bay, and several hundred runners take part in 'Not Since Moses' http://www.notsincemoses.com/

It looks like a great race - with the added risk that if I don't do it quickly enough I'll get engulfed by the incoming tides! Better get training!

I'm raising money for Asylum Welcome (http://www.asylum-welcome.org/), an Oxford-based organisation that supports people fleeing persecution and danger in their own countries, who are seeking refuge in Oxfordshire. I've got to know them through volunteering at a youth club for asylum-seeking and refugee children and young people. Asylum Welcome also provides initial and ongoing support when people first arrive in Oxford, from handing out emergency food for those who have been made destitute as well as giving information and advice, visiting detainees, and offering a friendly face in a bewildering and threatening world.

I'm very lucky - I can travel across the world to stay with friends, run a race, and then go back home again. The people that Asylum Welcome helps out every day don't have this luxury - they are running from oppression, violence and conflict, and may never see their family, friends and homes again. I'd really appreciate any sponsorship you give - this is a great local charity that makes people from all around the world welcome during difficult times.

Thank you!
