It is a cruel reality that some people will go throughout life without ever seeing what their parents, brothers & sisters, and even their own children look like.
They will never see the sun rise and set, their home or the sea.
ORBIS is a nonprofit humanitarian organisation dedicated to blindness prevention and treatment in developing countries who do incredible work.
According to the World Health Organisation, 37 million people worldwide are blind — 28 million unnecessarily.
ORBIS strives to eliminate avoidable blindness in the developing world, where at least 90 percent of the blind and visually impaired reside.
To give you some idea...
£10 allows us to distribute sight saving antibiotics to 37 children in Ethiopia. £20 pays for a sight saving cataract operation on an adult in India. £50 pays for health education and training to prevent dangerous eye infections in children in Bangladesh. £100 enables an ORBIS trained eye doctor to spend a week treating patients in poor rural areas in Vietnam.
Let's put this in perspective shall we?... You could go on a night out and easily spend £40...that is the same amount that could give 2 people the ability to see! Don't you think that is incredible!
I understand that most of you won't be able to donate anywhere near £20...but any little amount would help.
I have been inspired by my Dad (who had cataracts in both eyes, impairing his sight) to collect for ORBIS. It costs £2000 in the UK to remove one cataract compared to a mere £20 with ORBIS.
He was lucky enough to have his sight sorted. Many in the developing work aren't that lucky.
Please help raise my motivation for the marathon by donating to ORBIS!! Any amount would be amazing!!
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: ORBIS will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
