Clermont is a township outside of Durban with a large number of AIDS orphans.
We have established a church there in recent weeks. In the centre of Clermont is a large community health centre/hospital. They had established an orphan feeding scheme several years ago but this had to stop due to lack of funding.
We would like to rekindle this scheme.
There are more than 500 orphans in the vicinity of the hospital in 250-300 families. The oldest carer is often no more than 12 or 13 years old.
We are hoping to hand out a food parcel for each family. This will contain supplies to help them eat for a month.
We will also once a month hand out a breakfast to each child.
The cost per food parcel is approx £10.
The project is running for a 6 month trial period and during that time we hope to gain corporate sponsorship.
We are sourcing our food from a number of wholesalers who are providing donations or discounts on their supplies.
We would like people to sponsor a family for either
- £10 a month
- a one off payment of £60 for the full 6 months
- a one off donation towards the project
All administrative costs are to be met by the hospital - this means every penny of your money goes to the children who need it.
