Hi and thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
If you have found this page through my website at www.climb.daveoneverest.com then you will have a good idea what I am doing and why. If you have not yet seen my website then please take a look when you get chance. In the meantime I will tell you a bit about my challenge.
I intend to climb to the summit of Mount Everest and in doing so hope to raise 100k in aid of Bowel Cancer UK.
Until a recent visit to the Alps (January 2010) I had absolutely no mountaineering experience so this will no doubt prove to be a huge challenge for me. There is a long way to go to gain the technical knowledge, physical strength and stamina and mental attitude required to undertake this expedition but I am confident that I will get there during the next couple of years. In the meantime I am hoping to encourage enough people to donate to my chosen charity to make all this worthwhile. Over the next 30 months I am planning loads of fundraising activities including a 1000 mile in 24 hour motorcycle rally, a Dragon Boat event and a World Record attempt which YOU can get involved in, details to follow. In the latter part of 2009 I have already undertaken a few bits of fundraising including running the Great North Run, a raffle which raised £1500 or so held in October 2009 and a Santa's Grotto which I held at Dean's Garden Centre where all money received went to BCUK.
I must undergo huge amounts of preparation to even be permitted on to the plane to Kathmandu so I am setting a date of Spring 2012 for the expedition. This is very ambitious as, as most experienced mountaineers will testify, 15-20 years average experience is the norm for most successful climbers and so may two years may prove to be too soon but I can but try and get myself ready. This also allows me no alot of time to raise the sum of £100,000, a sum which may prove ellusive, but a target has to be set and that is going to be my aim. Therefore I hope you will help me reach both of my goals by donating to Bowel Cancer UK through this site. All donations go to the charity and not a pennt will be taken for the Everest expedition and they also receive your money straight away and also get an extra 28% through gift aid so if you can tick that box please do. Remember, every penny helps!
If you prefer to donate via another method please contact me at davej180979@daveoneverest.com or through this site and I can send you a postal address for donations too.
Many thanks for visiting and I hope that you will keep up to date with my training progress. Any words of advice or support will be greatly appreciated and please don't forget to visit my website to keep up to date with my Everest expedition, training and events which you can get involved in. I also have a blog on the York Press website.
Bye for now.
Dave
