Story
As most of you will know on the 28th of January 2008 I was involved in a car crash near Shap in Cumbria which left me with a fractured vertebra. After the ambulance had got to me they decided that it would be too difficult, painful and time consuming to get me to a hospital by road. Instead a helicopter was summoned from The Great North Air Ambulance. They were there only minutes later and got me to Cumberland General in Carlisle in 10 minutes rather than the hour it would have taken by road.
Since I left hospital I have been determined to get back the fitness I had before the accident although this has proved very difficult as 5 months of limited movement and no exercise left me very unfit. This year I have decided to take part in the Great North Run with the aim of not just regaining my fitness but also raising money for the air ambulance that got me to hospital so quickly. I have recently discovered that the average mission for one of the helicopters costs £700 and so my aim is to raise enough to pay back what it cost that day. If anybody wants any more information about the charity or anything else just let me know. Please try and donate even if its just a couple of pounds, the charity does an amazing job.
