Story
Here at the oldest open rugby club in the world we have just finished celebrating our 150th anniversary. It was a great year that rekindled our passion for the game we love and inspired us to renew our commitment to being ambassadors for our sport. So much so that our young development players, who feel privileged and proud to play the game here, have decided to work together to take it to young people in a very different situation.
We all know that rugby has the power to break down barriers and create life long friendships. An award winning charity called The Tag Rugby Development Trust (TRDT - www.trdt.co.uk) recognises it too and believes that these positive experiences should be not only for the developed world but also for growing “rugby nations” who don’t currently have the resources or opportunity to introduce children to the game. Through their work they provide the opportunity to export the values and philosophy of rugby:
Respect Teamwork Creating friendships Breaking down social and geographical barriers Co-operation between different communities Tolerance Exploring and accepting different cultures Achievement and fulfilment
