My story

SUPPORT CHRIS AND CMHA AT THE LONDON MARATHON!

Thanks for visiting the CMHA fundraising page!

CMHA (www.cmha.org.uk) is making an appearance for the first time in this year's Flora London Marathon (FLM) set for Sunday 26th April 2009.http://www.london-marathon.co.uk/site/

From Chris:

"Once upon a time I could not run 200m without huffing and puffing! Luckily once upon a time was a while ago so I have decided to run that tough 200 metres again ! And then another 41,800 metres!"

Seriously, after watching so many London Marathons on TV and live, I consider this an honour to partake! I am running for the small charity with a BIG heart, CMHA, whom provide amongst many things:

l          Counseling services and a national helpline

l          Gambling advice

l          Housing advice and support services

In terms of London running experiences!

l        I once ran from Old Street to Canada Water but that does not count!

l I have run after many a bus or last tube!

I once legged it (unsuccessfully!) after some pickpockets   down the Seven Sisters but that does not count! Neither did pegging it away from a hostile gang once..'

What DOES count is that with the economic downturn, people are suffering both financially and EMOTIONALLY. Depression affects people of ALL races and class systems.

Those in the BME (Black Ethnic minority) communities often face language and cultural barriers in seeking help. This is where CMHA come in.

I like helping people and I like running so why not combine the two!  This will help promote the serious issue of depression AMONGST ALL. A word of kindness to someone can even save their lives.

I used to work for CMHA and believe in the work that all the staff and volunteers do so this is a great way to raise money, promote CMHA and have some fun!

I have run 5km, 10km, 15 km and 21km but never the full 42 km so i look forward to the challenge!

Please support me! All the money goes towards a good cause and I promise I will not run away to Argentina and embezzle the money! (The exchange rate is not that great anyway!)"

The London Marathon is one of the worlds greatest marathons! To find out more about FLM, please visit the official site http://www.london-marathon.co.uk/site/
