CMS Skydive · 10 October 2009

Church Mission Society began in 1799 with a group of Christians, including William Wilberforce, who said yes to Jesus’ call to follow him to the edges. Today, in that same pioneering spirit, we continue to share Jesus’ love at the edges – working in over 40 countries across the world and in the UK.

Story

Dear Friends

I still cannot believe that I am going to do it – a SKYDIVE to raise funds for global mission!!!

When I was a young boy in South Africa I dreamt of flying aeroplanes when I was grown up … However, God led otherwise and today I am working full-time in Oxford, England as head of the Global Mission Fund. Being not able to become a pilot, I decided to take the plunge and jump out of an aeroplane over Oxford on 10 October 2009 to raise funds for CMS. CMS is a Christian charity based in the UK that seeks to share Jesus and change lives through people working in over 50 countries in different kinds of Christian outreach – church planting among people who have very little if any in various countries in Asia, urban outreach in the slums of Nairobi in Kenya, Business as Mission initiatives in East Africa, reconciliation camps in the Holy Land, medical care in Uganda, schools in Pakistan, helping Bangladeshi children who have been trafficked to become sex slaves, etc. You can get more information on the remarkable work of CMS by visiting the CMS website www.cms-uk.org.

One example of how CMS works towards transforming lives is the work of South Africans Drs Wim and Bertha Schoonbee who are bringing the gift of sight in Rwanda out of Gahini Hospital. Dr Wim carries out general surgery, eye operations in the new eye theatre and eye-health outreach within the community. In recognition of the quality of care, referrals come from across the region. Dr Bertha is helping blind people living productive lives through for example sport. She even started a cricket team for people who are blind or who have restricted eye sight!

Having worked in poor communities in South Africa, I understand something of the impact the Schoonbees are making. However, they and others like them need financial support to continue with their work. They depend on people to support them in sharing Jesus and changing lives in very difficult circumstances.

Please sponsor me to jump out of the aeroplane on the 10th October. That will help CMS support the work of Wim, Bertha and many other partners and support personnel who are transforming lives and communities around the world. Thank you for your willingness to give generously.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure and it is also the most efficient way to sponsor me. Furthermore, CMS will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28 per cent in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Just tick the relevant box when making the donation.

Thank you so much for your support!

Greetings and blessings
