Story
The epic challenge is now over and the scars are slowly healing. Everything you need to know, including a blog with photos is on the website dedicated to this adventure
On Sunday 19th September I will start to run the Wainwright route from the Irish Sea to the North Sea. I’ve always been a keen runner but this is the ultimate challenge – 7 Marathons in 7 days - and I am doing it to raise money for the Oxford Heart Centre where I work as a Cardiologist. Please sponsor me as I hope to raise £5,000.00 which will make a massive difference to the thousands of patients that use the Centre every year.
The 190 mile route crosses the Lake District, Pennines, Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors. The terrain is tough, the weather unpredictable and the distance unforgiving. A popular walk, those that manage the full distance usually do so in 12-14 days. Very few have done it faster. I aim to do it in a week - it’s one marathon each day, seven days in a row! This is not an organised event - it's all self planned and financed. I will be accompanied by my good friend Iain Rock. It’s just us with a couple of backpacks and a map! We will navigate from St Bees to Rosthwaite (28 miles), Patterdale (18 miles), Orton (24 miles), Low Row (32 miles), Danby Wiske (29 miles), Blakey Ridge (30 miles) and end up at Robin Hood’s Bay (29 miles) on Saturday 25th September, a grand total of 190 miles later.
Your support will help the Oxford Heart Centre http://www.oxfordradcliffe.nhs.uk/getinvolved/charitablefunds/cardiac.aspx which offers cardiac care to 2million people across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire, Northamptonshire, Wiltshire and beyond. The new Centre has state of the art operating theatres and single ensuite rooms in the wards. We want to improve the centre by installing ‘echo world’ where the latest imaging techniques can be used to diagnose heart conditions in a more patient friendly and comfortable way. We also hope to install state of the art research and training facilities to help us make progress in treating heart disease not only in Oxford but around the world.
So please dig deep and please and sponsor me. It's really easy, just click on the button (and don't forget the Gift Aid) Thank you for your support Tim
