Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!

Last year, a group of friends cycled 'Coast to Coast' across England; Whitehaven to Tynemouth over a 3 day cycle ride. During this ride we raised £6,794.86 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

So this year we have decided to try another challenge; this time a greater distance (200 miles) in a shorter time and without any support vehicle (we will be carrying our gear on our back all the way!). We will be following the 'Coast and Castles' route from central Newcastle along the coastline to Edinburgh.

We aren't massively experienced cyclists, and we dont have flash expensive bikes to do it on, but we are attempting to do this purely to raise funds for a good cause (and have a laugh along the way, if not too sore).

Taking part in the journey witth be Bill (Justin) Smith, Kev Parnham, Rich Foster and myself (Rich S).

As with any charitable ride, everyone has a reason for undertaking it and for us it is for Justin's Dad Steve. Steve has been living with MS for 25 years, and we'd like to raise awareness of the charity and the good work they do, plus raise some funds too along the way if we can. Below are Bill's words:

"My father was diagnosed in 1989 with MS... 25 years later and much has changed... A marathon runner has been confined to a wheelchair.
A keen fisherman who can no longer hold a fishing rod.
A former successful business owner can no longer work for a living.
A fit & healthy body has has now become a receptor to pain 24hrs a day.
Getting up in the morning, getting dressed, having breakfast and a quick wash before you shoot out of the door 20mins later is a luxury of years past.  This can now take hours even with the help of home care.
Vitamin supplements have given way to tablets and injections just to see the day through...
It's easy to paint the picture and understand why we have chosen to raise money for the MS society this year.
MS is a neurological disorder and my father has been unfortunate to be a sufferer.... It can be diagnosed at any time in YOUR life, it does not spare the fit and healthy & it changes lives.

Please help us help people like my father... Every penny counts"
