LATEST NEWS: THE TWO EMILY BEGG RIDES HAVE RAISED A TOTAL OF £4000 FOR THE TCT. THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO TOOK PART OR DONATED!!!
Every year since 2007 Colchester United fans and friends have got on their bikes to raise money for the Emily Begg Fund of the Teenage Cancer Trust. Emily was a 14 year old U's fanatic who tragically died of leukaemia in 2006 aged just 14. Since then, her parents Colleen and Stuart have work tirelessly for Emily's fund to raise money to help build and equip a new teenage cancer unit at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. People have been amazingly generous, and touched by Emily's story have raised over £300,000 so far.
Teenagers with cancer are a special case; children's wards are not geared up to their needs, while adult wards can be lonely and frightening. TCT units allow these youngsters to be treated by specialist doctors and nurses, surrounded by people their own age who understand the challenges that they face - not just fighting the disease, but also dealing with all the normal traumas of adolescence.
The Col U bike rides have so far raised over £10,000 for the TCT. Please help us to continue our fundraising for this really worthy cause and help keep Emily's name alive at the club she loved so much. You can read the full story at www.emilybeggfund.org.uk. Oh, and don't forget to retrieve your gift aid from the tax man, so we get more money!
Thanks so much for your support!
