NEW YORK MARATHON 2009

For those of you who don't know us - we have a wealth (yeah, right!) of marathon running experience in our team .. well, Scott is the "true athlete" - he'll be the one looking for a 3 + hour time to get round the 26 miles, have a leisurely lunch and go shopping before greeting the rest of us at the finish line!  The rest of us have experience of waiting by the side lines cheering on the runners in glamourous marathon city destinations.

When the idea of the marathon in New York was first suggested, we all happily signed on the dotted line with thoughts of shopping, a Broadway show and a good excuse for a wee holiday.  However, as time wore on, a nagging feeling of "what have we let ourselves in for" started to emerge, followed by panic the ever present question ... "does anyone know how we can get through 26 miles?"

So whilst Scott methodically works away at his marathon training the plan, the rest of the team are bringing up the rear – literally!  Sandra is showing early signs of an athleticism at this stage in the training, Aileen has the Rome marathon under her belt so a distinct psychological advantage, Allyson's goal is completion before tea time and before the sweeper vans come round .. and Conor doesn't mind as long as the girls don't go through the finish line before him!   There have however been a few training issues, recent injuries include (in medical terminology) chub-rub, extreme breathlessness, sausage-fingers, Shrek hands, rashes in obscene and previously undiscovered areas!

We've chosen 3 local charities for our fundraising:

In many case, competitors in the New York Marathon allow a part of their donations to cover their travel and accommodation costs – however, please be aware that we paid for these and therefore 100% of all donations will go directly to the charities.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page and thank you in anticipation for your donation to these charities and please feel free to forward this email and details of these websites to any other friends and family who may wish to donate.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thanks again,

Conor, Scott, Sandra, Allyson, Aileen
