The 'Common Girls' are a group of South London mums whose regular haunts include the commons of Wandsworth, Tooting Bec and Clapham, who are walking the Pink Power Walk together for one special reason...our team leader Lynn Rae.
Lynn was diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of the year, a scary prospect for a beautiful, fit pilates teacher and mum of two in her mid 40's. But showing incredible bravery and determination, Lynn has undergone a mastectomy and has just started a course of chemotherapy. The prognosis is good....breast cancer is no longer a death sentence but more money is needed to carry out vital research so that this disease won't have the same dread for our daughters as it did for our mothers.
We want to raise as much money as possible for Breakthrough and the Caron Keating Foundation, but also want to highlight the great work done by smaller concerns, such as the paul d'auria centre in Battersea, which provides invaluable help to people, like Lynn, who have nowhere else to turn when they're faced with this frightening diagnosis.
We know things are tough at the moment but even a small amount will help and think of us on May 17, walking our 16 miles around Richmond Park, following the fabulous Lynn, and know that it will be money well spent!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Breakthrough Breast Cancer gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor the Common Girls now!
