Story

WE DID IT!!

We all did the 3 peaks through falls, gales, snow, rain and dense cloud cover (for all you southern softies who were basking in the sun!) and we are really proud.

A huge thank you to all of you who have sponsored us and sent your best wishes, you have been a great help. And remember it's not too late if you haven't donated yet.

Ben Nevis   Scafell Pike   Snowdon

Ben Nevis was alright, at the bottom it was hard with all those steep steps, but it got easier and there was serious cloud cover and snow at the top!

Scafell Pike was very hard, we got lost near the top and did a big vertical rock scramble, (just the sort of thing dad loved to do) and the weather was appalling!

Snowdon was quite good, it was lashing with rain for the first half, then it brightened up and the sun came out at the summit to give us our first mountain top views! It was our last one and we just flew up and down.

Team :- Conquest For Colin (Me, Mum and John) are going to climb the three peaks (Ben Nevis- 1344m, Scafell Pike- 978m, Snowdon- 1085m) all in three days to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust (www.teenagecancertrust.org) and a covered seating area for the students of Parmiter's, my school.

I know I can do this and it means a lot to me to do it in memory of my Dad, who loved everything to do with mountains - walking up them and skiing down them. Dad took me to Scafell Pike on my 9th birthday, three years ago and was a great hill walker. He particularly loved the Lake District and Mum tells me that years before I was born, he even did a mountain leadership course on Snowdon, with ice axes, ropes and all his mountain gear - those of you who knew him will know what he was like about equipment!

Mum and I had a practice by walking up Snowdon at Easter, which was not easy with 3 feet of snow at the top, so it should be no problem in June. Mum's not sure if she can make all three as her energy levels aren't exactly great at the moment after all she has been through, but it's good that our kiwi friend John has stepped in to help. Having just run a marathon across the Sahara Desert and planning to row the Atlantic next year, John should have no probs doing all 3 with me, and I'm pretty good at going up mountains myself, as I have already done 2 of the peaks.
