THE RESULT   

Happily I am able to say I completed my first 1/2 marathon and my first athletic event of my adult life. My troubled left knee cartilage, which had made it's presence painfully aware during training, decided not to flare up and cause any problems. 

The result being that I managed to do the 21.1 kilometer event in 2 hours 13 minutes and 12 Seconds, which for those of you who care about these things means an average pace of  6.17 minutes per km and an average heart rate of 170 bpm.

Thankfully I beat my target of 2.5 hours even with my knee disrupting my training so I am very pleased with the result. If I am foolish enough to do it again next year I would like to think a sub 2 hour time would be possible, however, I will leave that decision until after my Orthopedic surgeon's verdict following my left knee MRI scan last week.....

My younger sister Carla (see image) who lives in Switzerland completed this half marathon in 2007 and has signed us both up for this event taking place in Lausanne Switzerland. The event covers 21.1 kilometers or 13.1 miles and this is the first fitness type event I have ever entered.

Having giving up smoking three years ago I will be ecstatic if I am just able to complete the course although I am using a training plan with a view to achieving a time within 2.5 hours.
