In September 2010, three fearless friends will be entering a charity event called the ‘Rickshaw Run’ which consists of 64 teams from across the world aiming to complete thousands of miles of treacherous terrain in a traditional Indian ‘Rickshaw’ better known as a ‘Tuk Tuk’. The route starts in the town of Gantok, in the state of Sikkim, India which is located in the foot hills of the tallest mountain range 'in the world'.
We shall attempt to navigate our way along the treacherous mountain passes, snow capped mountains and the battle with altitude sickness of the Nepalese Himalayas, then venturing into the wild jungles of India finishing in the picturesque desert city of Jaisalmer ‘The Golden City’ in the Indian state of Rajasthan for a game of cricket and a cup of tea!
The Rickshaw Run is pretty simple. With no preparation and less luggage, one flies to the Indian Subcontinent and does one's damndest to force 150cc of 3 wheeled Indian engineering over thousands of miles of questionable terrain in around two weeks raising as much money as humanly possible for charity along the way.
There are no support teams, get out of jail free passes, daily checkpoints or an organised route, we are simply just 3 blokes in a Tuk Tuk with a start line and a finish line and a dodgy map.
Yes, we must be mad but anything you can donate towards this great charity will be very much appreciated. All the accommodation and costs of the trip will be funded by ourselves, so anything you give will go straight to Shelterbox.
Thank you for your support.
