Hi there, my name is Kris Tavender and from August 21st-27th I will be cycling approx. 700 miles in 7 days across Bristol, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and Dorset to raise awareness and funds for street children in Tanzania, East Africa.
Millions of children in Tanzania not only live below the poverty line, but have no access to shelter, food and clean water on a daily basis, and medication and education could be truly beyond the grasp of most of these children. Amani Home for Children is an establishment set up to get these kids off the streets, away from a life of drugs, violence and abuse-provide a structured life and diet and above all else educate them to ensure they become responsible and sustainable Tanzanians, to help build a stronger country for the future. Run by dedicated local Tanzanians and committed overseas volunteers, Amani has become a beacon for children in plight and a real success story in East Africa.
What these people need are our awareness, our empathy and above all else our financial support, to ensure that the resources required to keep the Centre going can be provided long term, what would be so little to us is so much to them-£500 is equal to 1,000,000 Tanzanian shillings, almost double the average man's annual salary. Together we can make a difference-we can be the difference!
I will be cycling 90-100 miles a day, stopping over in Tiverton, Bude, Redruth, Helston, Plymouth and Exeter-finishing with a mammoth 140 mile day back into Bristol. That's the hard bit.......
