Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Below you can find our a bit about The Mongol Rally, our route, The Green Peril and of course the great cause that we're raising money for The MS Society.

What is the Mongol Rally?

The Mongol Rally is described as the greatest motoring adventure on the planet. It’s a 10000 mile journey across Europe and Asia with no set route, and no back up or support. The only rule is your car has to be less than 1200cc.

The rally starts in Prague on the 21st of July and ends just north of Mongolia (for logistical reasons) whenever you want it to. You can take whatever route you want. You can take whatever equipment you think is necessary. You can take as long as you want. Everything is
left up to each team.

Our Route

Our route will take us from the UK to Prague (via a lap of the Nürburgring). We’ll drive across central Europe, through Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbaijan where we’ll cross the Caspian Sea on a rusting old Soviet ferry that runs to no timetable and has never heard of health and safety.
We’ll land in Turkmenistan where we’ll visit the Gates of Hell - the Darvasa Gas Crater. Then we’ll rush to the Uzbekistan border and head for Tajikistan where we’ll join the Pamir Highway - the second highest altitude road in the world. Following the Afghanistan border, we’ll end up in the un-pronounceable Kyrgyzstan.
Next is Kazakhstan, a quick blast through Russia, and then into Mongolia. We’ll drive from the far west of the country on roads that aren’t paved to the capital Ulaanbaatar where we’ll then head north to finish the rally in the Russian city of Ulan Ude.

Our Car - The Green Peril

The Green Peril is a 1999 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa. Its optional features are - a sunroof. Bought for £425, this crusty chariot will face rough British roads, smooth German Autobahns, and what we assume will be endless dirt roads, deserts, mountain passes, and unpaved tracks.
Prepping the car is already underway with a roof rack and some unwired light bars fitted. USB charging points are yet to be
installed, along with a sump guard, and other useful features.

The MS Society

Are a community of people living with MS, researchers, fundraisers, campaigners, and volunteers. Their ultimate goal is to find a cure. Until then, they're working to make sure no one has to face MS alone.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects your brain and spinal cord. In MS, the coating that protects your nerves (myelin) is damaged. This causes a range of symptoms like blurred vision and problems with how we move, think and feel. Once diagnosed, MS stays with you for life, but treatments and specialists can help you to manage the condition and its symptoms.

More than 100,000 people in the UK have MS. In the UK people are most likely to find out they have MS in their thirties, forties, and fifties. But the first signs of MS often start years earlier. Many people notice their first symptoms years before they get their diagnosis.

MS affects almost three times as many women as men.
