I believe that one of the great advances of the 20th century is the ability of the medical community to enable donor organs to function in the body of another. Bringing the possibility of life to some, and improving the quality of life of others. 

I have been lucky enough to spend a significant part of my professional career getting to know how this specialty impacts families lives, and some of the most brilliant people who work in organ transplantation.

However one of the great inequities is that this amazing procedure is limited predominantly to the developed world. Transplant links is a wonderful charity run and supported by amazingly talented people who are helping bring access to this life changing procedure to people in countries less fortunate than our own

All year, slowly, some would say sneakily, I have been preparing for this event which will involve a 1.2 miles swim, a 56 miles bike ride and a 13.1 mile half marathon run. A total distance of 70.3 miles.

My waistline has benefited and I would also like Transplant links to benefit. It will be a long day for me but the thought of doing the above event for this worthwhile cause may just help me get through the "Fu$k it moments"!! Just finishing will be an achievement.
