It breaks down the barriers which separate us from each other, such as racism and fear, to build a better world where everyone is valued. It works creatively in education with young people and adults, supports refugees and other migrants and encourages positive action.

Story

Those of us who are citizens of a country usually take for granted the rights and obligations that citizenship confers on us. Most of us can enroll our children in schools, seek medical attention when we are sick, apply for employment when we need to, and vote to elect our representatives in government. We feel we have a stake in the country in which we live; we feel a profound sense of belonging to something greater than our individual selves.

However, there are over 15 million people around the world who have no nationality. They are stateless. No government will recognise them, and no country is willing to protect their basic human rights. Stateless refugees live in legal limbo, with their host countries unwilling to accept them and their country of origin refusing to take them back.

After becoming increasingly concerned by the enforced destitution faced by stateless people in this country, Coventry Peace House decided to launch a campaign to lobby the British Government and help bring about change. The campaign began with the writing of our book 'Stateless - the quiet torture of belonging nowhere', which will be launched at the Nowhere Night Conference on June 18th in the Coventry Memorial Park. There will be speakers, discussions, drama and a refugee camp set up by Islamic Relief. Future events are also being planned.

We're now looking for sponsorship to help us pay the publishers, fund the conference and cover future costs of the campaign. Please give whatever you can to support this important cause!

If you'd like to find out about other ways to be involved in the campaign please see our website www.stateless.org.uk

Donating through the site is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Coventry Peace House gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

All that remains is to say thanks for visiting & for your support...however much you can give will be very much appreciated.
