The RMBF was formed to relieve need, distress or hardship suffered by any person who is serving, has served or is a dependant of a Royal Marine, irrespective of rank. It also provides immediately on the death of either a serving RM or a reservist on duty a sum of money for the next of kin to help them cope with any pressing financial matters.

My story

Cpl Liam Elms was killed on 31st December 2008 in Afghanistan.

I could never hide the smile on my face when i had the opportunity to tell someone my brother, Liam was a Corporal in the Royal Marines....i was so proud. No words can describe how hard the loss of Liam has hit our family and the family of his Fiancee Jess. Liam touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. My Mum and Dad (Mike and Maureen) my brother Ryan and myself would like to thank everyone for their condolences they are all truly appreciated. The response is overwhelming but nothing less is to be excepted for a true hero.

We have decided to set this page up in memory of Liam, to enable those who knew him or for anyone who would like to pay their respects to Liam, to donate to the Royal Marines Benevolent Fund if they wish to.

My Family and I would like to thank everyone who has donated to this site and for the donations we have recieved via cheques, totaling £923 which has gone directly to the Royal Marines Benevolent Fund. The collection at church on Liam's funeral day raised £1069 for the same fund. We are grateful that people appreciate what the RMBF does for serving and ex-serving Royal Marines and their families.
