Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As you may or may not know last September I was knocked off my bicycle by a skip lorry in London. Both of my legs were crushed and I was lucky to survive.

As a result of the collision I spent 2 months in Royal London Hospital with a fractured pelvis, fractured ankle, dislocated shoulder and a severe degloving wound to my left leg. After more than 10 operations I had to have a skin graft to my left leg. When I came home from hospital I had to learn to walk again and how to care for my skin graft which continues to be a challenge.

When my mobility was limited I turned to craft, cross-stitch, sewing etc. to keep me amused and it has been a real joy and kept me sane!

To celebrate this and mark the 1 year of my collision I am hosting aDay of Craft at the end of September in my new home in Nottingham. On this occasion I want to be with my friends and family doing some of the crafts that have helped me get through this tough year and at the same time I want to raise some money for the charities who have helped me:

London Air Ambulance (donate on this page for this charity)

and the Katie Piper Foundation (to donate for this charity go to www.justgiving.com/kirby-Jane-Crafty)

If you would like to attend the event please get in touch but if you can't make it but still want to contribute then please donate on this JustGiving page.

If you are interested in coming to the Craft Day this is what I have in store:

Date: 24th/25th September OR 1st/2nd October. All day.

10am: Greetings! Arrival, chats and acquainting.
10.30 - 12pm: MAKING! From Owls to bunting, tote bags, phones cases and more!
12pm - 1pm: LUNCH! Maybe each person can bring an item, salads, pizza, pasta, sandwiches etc.
1pm-2pm: PATCHWORK! Everyone participates in sewing together patchwork squares to make into a patchwork quilt that can then be auctioned (at a later date) for charity!
3pm-4pm: CAKE SALE! and tea. People can bring homemade cakes and wares and sell them for charity.
4pm onwards: KNIT 'N' NATTER! And don't forget crocheting. With tea, or wine, or Sangria! we can all sit and natter whilst knitting a simple ditty.
7pm: Goodbyes! And final donations!

These two charities are really very worthy so please give as much as you can.

If it wasn't for the skills and quick thinking of the London Air Ambulance then things would no doubt be very different. They also looked after my partner Sam who was there at the roadside and helped put his mind a ease.

The Katie Piper Foundation have been so helpful in my recovery and helped me cope with living with my skin graft and deformity. Their forum has been a really source of care, friendship and advice, when I wasn't sure who else to turn to.

So please dig deep and donate now to help me say thank you to these wonderful charities and to help them continue to help people like myself!

Lots of love,

Kirby x
