We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

In May last year I was diagnosed with bladder cancer. After a couple of ops, a course of chemo and 3 months recovery I was back out doing my favourite hobby of climbing mountains in The Lakes and Snowdonia.

Bladder Cancer has the highest reoccurance rate of all Cancers. 10,000 people are diagnosed in the UK every year and 50% of those diagnosed won't survive it.

My main reasons for doing this challenge are:

1. To get fitter than I have ever been before. The advice from my consultant was to eat healthily and exercise more. By doing this I aim to minimise any chance of reoccurance for myself. This challenge will be physically and mentally demanding. it will involve me training harder than than ever to give myself the best chance of completing. This will aid my own health also.

2. I aim to raise awareness for Bladder Cancer. Its really important for people to recognise potential signs of cancer. Being diagnosed early can make a big difference.

3. To raise a minimum of £4000 for cancer research UK. It is important to raise this money in order to complete the challenge. This money will help them continue their vital work.

I'll also be carrying a giant pink cuddly shark to the summit. The shark's name is Bruce and he's a very special shark. He used to belong to a six year old called Jason Farerra. Sadly, young Jason died of a rare cancer. Bruce was little Jason's favourite toy and once completed The National Three Peaks Challenge where he raised over £12000 for charity and to give Jason his dream holiday to Disney.

Carrying the shark is probably a daft idea, due to altitude etc. I will not fail though, training has now commenced with Bruce. So look out for me on the fells with a giant shark strapped to my back.
