Story

Hi. Thanks for taking the time to look at my page.  I'm trying to raise £1000 towards the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Charity fundThis is the most fantastic place i have had the misfortune to visit and the work they do there is second to none.

Last year around July 2009 my Son George took ill with a "Bug" within a week he had stopped speaking, stopped sleeping (he would just lie awake) and worst of all stopped crying.  He suffered some kind of paralysis and had trouble breathing.

He was rushed to RMCH Pediatric Intensive Care where he was looked after and monitored around the clock by the most dedicated staff you could ever wish to meet.  He spent around 7/8 days there.

From there he went to the ward where he was cared for for another 6 or 7 weeks, eventually being discharged in September with the huge task of rehab in front of him.  He was only 19 months old.

George has risen to the challenge and has made remarkable progress and is doing really well.  Its now time for me, his Dad to do the same.

In order to show our thanks for all the care George received i plan to complete the Helvellyn Triathlon in September this year.  This is not something i have ever done before and will be a real challenge. check out www.trihard.co.uk and click on the Helvellyn race for more details, but needless to say i think it might be tough.

If you fancy a day out in the lakes the race will be taking place on 5th September 2010. It would be great to see you there.

Any donation no matter how small will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks Again.

Well, its now the 6th Sept and i've finally completed the event. Oh my god. It was easily the hardest race i have taken part in. The swim was quite tough and too me a bit longer than i hoped, but that was definately the easiest part. The cycle started off really well with me passing people for most of the route. This was before "The Struggle" out of Ambleside. This hill is horrible!!! Starts off very steep, then gets steep then gets very, very steep and finishes steeper. After that just the small matter of a 9 mile fell race. Again the up hill was very steep (pattern forming here). Cramp was a major issue as there were no water stops on the hill and it was really windy towards the top. Gusting hard knocking people off of balance. I caught my trailing foot on a rock and fell on a steep rocky down hill. Cut hand bleeding knee, thigh and shoulder later i picked my self up and got with the rest of the decent.

As i said it was a real challenge and not something  i'll be doing again soon (well maybe). I hope i put in enough effort to make my sponsors happy and im sure it will make a huge difference to the "neuro" ward in the hospital.

Thanks again

Craig
