Story

Heeey everyone,

This summer we (Izzy, Georgia and Abby) will be cycling, completely unaided or supported, from London to Barcelona in memory of Izzy’s brother Jamie and to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. None of us are cyclists and the 1500+km standing between us and Barcelona seems fairly daunting at the moment...this is why we need your help!!

The main purpose of this ride is to raise money for the charity and we are really reeeeally keen to raise as much as possible. As Izzy will describe below, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research really are an amazing organisation and every penny raised will be valued. Whilst we know that many of you reading this will be impoverished students, we’d be so so grateful if you could donate as much as you can - it really would make the whole thing seem worthwhile and hopefully will motivate us along the way to keep going when we face the inevitable saddle-sores and the sight of the Pyrenees!!!

For those who don’t know, Izzy will now explain why we are raising money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research: It would be hard to express exactly how much this charity means to me or how it has affected me over the 14 years I’ve been supporting it but to say that it has been life-changing is no exaggeration. As with all such causes, there is a reason behind mine and my family’s involvement with the charity. When I was 6 my older brother and best friend Jamie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. He was just 8 years old. Though he fought incredibly bravely, he passed away only 8 months later. Losing him and coming to terms with what happened is never easy, but my parents and I are determined to try to help make sure that in the future other families don’t have to go through what we did. I’ve now been supporting Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research for 14 years in various forms, from volunteering at head office in school holidays and at fundraising events, to putting on concerts and riding the London Bikeathon each year. I have seen first-hand what a genuine difference they make both through the groundbreaking research and trials they fund and make possible, together with the support and hope they give to patients and families. I know that anything you can donate will make a difference and will be appreciated by both the charity and all those suffering from blood cancers.

This is going to be a massive challenge for all of us; we are not being supported on the ride – there won’t be anyone following us in a car carrying our bags, no comfy B&Bs to crash in on the way...we will set up camp where we can and do it the proper way!! We genuinely really really realllly want to raise a substantial amount of money for the charity, so the success of this really depends on you reading this...please pleaaase donate as much as you can to our justgiving page, we promise every penny is going to a fantastic cause and will help to fund expert scientists in the quest to beat blood cancers...it can be done, but the charity relies on public donations to make it happen.

So yeah, thats about it...thanks for reading if you’ve made it this far and PLEAAAASE share this to all your friends, acquaintances, random email contacts and encourage them to donate; we will love you forever and be eternally grateful!

** You can now donate via mobile, just text IMBG92 £10 (or other amount) to 70070 **

Lots of love,

Izzy, Georgia and Abby

ALSO if you're interested you can see a clip recorded in 2005, where the then research director at the charity David Grant talks about the test developed with money raised by us previously in Jamie's memory, if you follow this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ois0Yd2QKn4&feature=youtu.be
