I've raised £50 to add weekly to the fantastic hospital gifts and funds raised previously supporting local hospital and charities

Due to covid-19 restrictions the fund raising actives have been suspended until further notice.
However, the justgiving.com/crowdfunding/1250milechallenge page will stay open for anyone who wishes to donate to this worthy cause.

Our headteacher embarked on a 1,250 mile bike challenge to raise awareness of the increasing concerns over children’s health in today’s society... Children’s health is increasingly at risk: National data show... high rates of child obesity... high rates of poor oral health... high rates of diabetes, cancers, heart conditions.
Exercise /keep fit levels consistently dropping, poor diet … child anxiety, depression, mental health problems at an all time high.
He was joined on part of his journey by pupils (and parents/relatives) of St Andrew’s who cycled 10 mile stretches.
His initial journey (46 consecutive days) covered the period of Lent and involved him travelling north, south, east and west across Hull and the East Riding as well as across the river to Barton, visiting hospitals (Children’s Wards/Units), Sunshine House Children’s Centre, charities, churches, leisure centres, other sports organisations and schools.
As well as south to Barton, his travels included west to North Cave, north to Beverley and east to Withernsea and Hornsea... and all points in between across the City of Hull. Each day, the journey will range between 17- 56miles.
At each destination he handed over a ‘Gift of Love’ from the family of St Andrew’s as well as a ‘Letter of Friendship’ from our pupils. Every school in Hull has now been visited – often from as early as 3.30am in order for him to then to cycle to his own school to continue his daily duties.
He, and the children, are being sponsored and raising funds for the charities listed above but also collecting much needed resources/toys etc for children in Hull Royal Infirmary (various wards/units), Castle Hill (Teenage Cancer Unit), Dove House Hospice (to aid their child support network) and Sunshine House/CAMHs etc.
The links he forges will hopefully also lead to real Fellowship and mutual support for any future projects.
During the Summer Term the intention was for the entire school (over 600 children) to embark on the second stage of this project by also having a sponsored cycle challenge (but shorter distances depending on age of child). Due to the Corona virus, this has been put back to Autumn or Spring Term 2020/21.
In April, at the end of the 1,250 Challenge, the headteacher then ran a half marathon on Easter Sunday (with a teddy bear on his back) to raise awareness of the gallant work of our NHS.
Other staff will, later complete 10k/half marathon runs to support the same charities and highlight the family of St Andrew’s passion for our ‘Healthy Bodies/HealthyMinds Crusade’.
There is nothing more important than a child’s health - this belief has increased multi-fold since the devastation expressed by parents and children during Covid 19.
At St Andrew’s we - staff, governors, parents and children unite to raise awareness of one of society’s major problems.
We aim to develop our ‘Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds Crusade’ as our number one priority … Let children be children … We call on all adults in a child’s life to share our passion for raising awareness of the influence modern society can have on the wellbeing of our children through poor diet, lack of exercise, unnecessary pressures and anxiety. Since the extension of his target for 1,250 miles to 5,000 miles he now always travels with a huge cuddly lion on his back – NHSy the NHS lionheart. His slogan is ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’.
Good habits of healthy living can have long term benefits for the children we adore.
