Story
Thank you very much for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. I hope you can support me in funding my treatment.
My name is Andy Chapman, I'm 53 years young and have been married to Zena for 33 years (well married nearly 25). We have two beautiful daughters, 14 and 8 years old, who are our world. I've worked for WABCO Automotive UK Ltd for 27 years and have met some amazing people along the way with many becoming life long friends.
In February 2015 our lives came crashing down, when out of the blue I was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma, Bile Duct Cancer. Can you imagine telling your 12 and 5 year old daughters their Dad might die?!
In April 2015, I underwent a life saving liver resection at St James's Hospital in Leeds. I recovered so well that my GP renamed me, "Superman!" I returned to work in September and everything was going well until January 2016 when the rare aggressive cancer cruelly returned. In April 2016 I was finally told my prognosis was terminal.
I underwent the standard NHS chemotherapy for bile duct cancer and radiotheraphy to try to extend my life. In December 2016 after a number of complications I was told that no further treatment options were available to me. As you can imagine we were all devastated.
Due to my age and young family we couldn't accept this prognosis. My wife Zena searched frantically for alternative treatment options and found an amazing clinic in Germany. I went for 10 days in January of this year for Immunotherapy treatment. That visit alone cost £75,000 but what price can you put on life. Only time will tell how successful the treatment has been and if we need to return in the future. We are currently investigating further private treatment options in the UK.
Any surplus funds raised after treatment will be donated to fund research into this terrible rare cancer through AMMF the Cholangiocarcinoma charity.
Thank you
Andy
