Abel Camps has been taking physically disabled children and young people on holiday for over 40 years. Each year our staff give their time and energy for FREE to organise and run these camps in Wales for the 'campers', enabling their regular carers to have much-needed respite. We therefore try to plough as much effort into 1 week as we know the carers do for the other 51, and we try to have as much fun as possible whilst doing it! Each camp costs approx. £7000 to run... but this does not include additional larger needs which rise up from time-to-time.

This year, we specifically need funds over-and-above our normal running costs to buy new tents: The ones we've been using for our families over the last few years did not survive this year's camp! Without them, we will have to limit the number of staff, which would limit the number of possible attendees... and we obviously don't want to do that because demand for places is growing!

Ideally, we'd like to purchase 3x tents suitable for 8-people each, which we estimate to be approx. £250 per tent. Each year, these tents will be treated with new water-proofing and we hope they will last us 5 years. (For your additional information, the 10x canvas ridge tents we accommodate our 'campers' in are provided by the campsite - they cost approx. £1000 each and last approx. 10 years.)

We are having a special fundraising Fun Day on Saturday 17th November in Leicester where there will be crafts, gifts, food, games, bric-a-brac and the return of our prize raffle... plus an expanded 'naff' prize dip just for a laugh!
