Story
Hi, I am Ailsa. I am raising money so that I can buy my own Kaye Walker. I am a young adult who has Cerebral Palsy, and I can't walk without some sort of support because my muscles can go from tight to floppy in a second, and I don't have enough control over my legs and torso... Well, I don't have enough control over my body full stop.
My type of Cerebral Palsy effects every muscle in my body, it affects my movement, posture and co-ordination, caused by a problem with the brain that makes my arms and legs to move uncontrollably.
With the Kaye Walker, I will be able to walk without someone supporting me. I tried the Kaye Walker on the 28 February 2017, and the physiotherapist said that it would benefit me a great deal. The Kaye Walker will hold me up-right, while allowing me to walk freely... It has a strap that comes around my back to hold me in, it also has a seat that I can sit on to have a rest. The seat also prevents me from falling if my legs suddenly decide to give way.
We've tried to get support from a charity, but they let me down. The charity came in March 2017, and said they could help, but we have heard nothing since, so I think they have either forgotten about me, or they've realised that they can't help, and haven't bothered to let us know.
So, unfortunately, we have been left to raise the funds for the Kaye Walker ourselves. So, I have set up this page in the hopes of raising enough money to buy it...
Having the Kaye Walker will help me in so many ways, such as: I will have a different perspective on the world around me, I will be able to go out for walks, I will be at the same height as everyone else and it will help to keep my legs strong.
The Kaye Walker will help me emotionally as well as physically because even though I am mainly happy with the way I am, I do get days when I'm fed up. Having the Kay Walker will enable me to walk with people, instead of just being pushed around in my wheelchair.
When walking with the aid of the Kaye Walker, I will be able to walk without anyone's support, this will help me be more independent. It will also allow me to explore and improve on my manoeuvrability skills.
I realise that you may not be able to give much money, but every little bit helps me get a few steps closer to my target to enable me to buy my own Kaye Walker... The Kaye Walker will help me with improving posture, walking pattern and general mobility.
Your donations, whether they're big or small will help a lot!
Thank you.
