Weʼve raised £715 to Raise money for a new life changing wheelchair for my brother in law Ossy Myers

Funded on Tuesday, 16th July 2019

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

Ossy needs a new wheelchair that will suit his needs. Unfortunately wheelchair services don't provide these types of wheelchairs, only basic ones, and as Ossy's needs are very complex, his family are fundraising the money for this life changing piece of equipment.
Ossy is a bright young man who was born with a very rare bone disorder, which means he doesn’t have legs, has short upper arms and joints that don't move but are fused together meaning his joints don’t move like ours so he can’t bend his head or turn his wrists. He’s had many operations at Great Ormond Street to enable him to try and live a life as normal and pain free as possible. Despite all of this he is fiercely independent and Ossy has always said he is only as disabled as society makes him.
We are hoping to buy Ossy a specialist wheelchair called a K450 Permobil Wheelchair, which is one more suitable for his age and needs but costs £13.5k. The chair Ossy has at the moment is very basic and unsafe. We have been fighting for over a year to get him the chair his Occupational therapist recommends but have been turned down by wheelchair services.
Oscar has had several falls trying to get into his current chair and his Occupational therapist has found the Permobil - a chair where the seat would lower to the ground allowing him easy and safe access. It would also allow him to be outside at the local Nature Reserve where he is a volunteer. The seat also rises to allow him to talk to people face to face. Ossy is unable to work because of the severity of his disability so has not had the same opportunities as other young people. However, being able to volunteer has opened up a whole new world for him and given him so much confidence that he no longer hides away in his bedroom but spends as much time as possible out of doors and faces the world head on and Oscar feels valued for the first time in his life.
No matter how small your donation it really will make such a big difference to Ossy's life. Thank you!
