My 3 year old son ’Fantastic Freddie’ is in the long winding process of being dianosed with autism. It is a well known fact that dogs not just help people with autism but actively increase their life quality! A small list of Freddies traits are running away - known as ‘bolting’, emotional and exhausting meltdowns, a speech delay, favours playing with adults and obsessive play for example he will only play with Trains, cars or anything with wheels.

I have enquired about applying for an autism service dog however; applications are indefinitely closed. Not only is there this hurdle, the pressure on these charities is so great theres an extremely small chance of Freddie being picked to have a dog.

I have extensively researched which breed would be the best and have cone to two choices; Golden Retriever or Labrador. The dog would became very much part of our family but with the special gift of being Freddies companion!

Freddie lights up around all animals but especially loves dogs and horses. Freddie has recently started horse riding and during his first lesson I heard him - for the first time ever- have a two way conversation with the instructor! The lesson happened to be on my 30th birthday which was the best present I could’ve had, hearing my darling sons voice sound confident and happy!! This was during his first lesson so just imagine how a dog would help him. It would lower his anxiety when out the house, engage him at home to limit meltdowns, have a best friend to talk to so he will not have to feel lonely.
