I am travelling to Indonesia later on this year to volunteer in child protection/welfare homes and hospitals, along with teaching in schools to children who are much less fortunate than us. Many of the children in these homes are orphans; having endured horrific childhoods and living in complete contrast to the lives we live here in the UK. Volunteers bring an immense amount of happiness and love to these children and it makes their day to have visitors to play with and teach them.

I am intending on going to university when I return to study paramedic science, a job that will require huge amounts of compassion, empathy and experience - and I cannot think of a better way to begin my career than working and helping the most vulnerable groups of people in the heart of their own community.
