Last year myself and 3 friends had the opportunity to visit Ubuntu Wildlife sanctuary in South Africa where we helped rescue 3 Lion cubs from a hunting farm.

The current mission of the Sanctuary is "The Argentina 13". The full story is below, but in a nutshell the team are rescuing 13 Lions & Tigers from an abandon Zoo in Argentina, and providing them a new wonderful home in South Africa to live out their remaining years in a safe, happy and natural environment. Unfortunately their previous home wasn't actually a Zoo, it was an illegal breeding farm under the guise of a zoo, and sold big cat cubs, to circus owners and private individuals. The owner ran a two-fold operation whereby he accepted money for the “business transactions” as well as accepted subsidies for the “zoo”.

The illegal operation was shutdown in 2016 and the local mayor has done his best to care for the animals to date. However he isn't a professional animal caretaker and has very limited resources in which to care for the animals, hence Ubuntu taking the animals to their new home in South Africa.

I'm pleased to say that the rescue is well underway, and a number of cats have arrived safely in their new home and are thriving. However as the animal population grows so do the challenges, mainly the food needed to keep the cats healthy. The team at Ubuntu have done a great job securing a supply of meat from a local abattoirs in SA, but now need a "cold truck" in order to keep the meat fresh. They have secured a great deal on a cold truck but have a $900 gap in their funding.

I appreciate that everyone is facing their own challenges and you may already donate to charities close to your heart, but if you can spare any amount to help this cause it would be greatly appreciated. I also know first hand what a difference Ubuntu makes to the lives of the animals and local community. I will also be travelling back to the sanctuary in December to donate a week of my time helping the animals and community as I really believe in what the team at Ubuntu are doing and stand for.
