I am trying to raise money to help me to pay for a cataract removal operation for my little Border Terrier Millie. Millie got diagnosed with diabetes in August last year and due to this she lost her sight just before Christmas. Her insurance limit has been spent on the vet care she needed for her diabetes and the things we had to get for every day testing therefore there is no longer any financial help at all with this much needed operation. I am now retired and the operation cost is between £6000 - £7000 in total with aftercare appointmrents needed to review Millie over the following 6 months. The cost of this to me has to be worth it if it means that Millies sight will be restored and she can live out her life with sight once again. No animal should have to stay blind when there is an operation to take the darkness away. Money is, but should not be the main reason any loved pet cannot have a fairly routine operation to be able to see again. Since going blind Millie has become very depressed, she has lost her confidence and fun, she is like a different dog and it pains me to see her having trouble moving around and bumping into things. Having this operation would not only mean she would get her sight back but also she gets her energy back and could live a long happy life again seeing the things she loves, standing at her favourite place by the garden gate and watching the world pass her by. She still goes to the gate and looks out but of course she sees nothing but blackness.It is heartbreaking to see her standing there and knowing she cannot see the park in the front of the house, or the dogs that come and go throughout the day. If I am lucky enough to raise more than the amount needed for Millie alone i would like to send this additional money to a charity so other owners who cannot afford this operation may have the chance to restore their much loved pets sight again.
