Weʼve raised £1,005 to Buy an All terrain wheelchair for Lincoln

    Story

Lincoln is our 4 1/2 year old little boy. He has a condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This means his body doesnt produce any dystrophin. Dystrophin is a protein found in muscle cells. It is one of a group of proteins that work together to strengthen muscle fibers and protects them from injury as muscles contract and relax kind of like a shock absorber. Without this his muscles start to breakdown and become scar tissue.

Lincoln currently uses a wheelchair when he gets to tired to walk. Or when we go out and about to conserve his energy so he can still do the fun things. Recently we were told about an all terrain wheelchair which also has an attachment for our younger daughter Verity to sit on the back of. This would make life alot easier as currently I have to juggle a one year old and Lincoln which means either carrying her or trying to push and allow her to walk. This attachement can come off and the wheelchair then becomes a chair just for Lincoln. It has all terrain wheels and an free wheel attachment meaning we can go over any landscape. As a family we love camping and going for walks on the beach. So far we have managed by carrying Lincoln, but as hes growing he is getting heavier this wheelchair would be a new least of life.

The wheelchair costs £3534 we were told when we went to view it that we would be able to get funding. It now seems however that many of the main charities have long long waiting lists and it would be months before they would even accept our application, let alone approve it and then the chair would need to be made. The wheelchair is custom made the one above (pictured) was a prototype made for another family. It would be one of a kind hense the high cost.

Now Lincoln has tried the chair and loved it and now that I have seen it and know how much easier it would be for it I am determind to get it for him by any means.

I have set up this page because over the coming weeks I will be running some fundraising events. So far we are hoping to hold a sponsored kids nature walk, a coffee morning and maybe a raffle. If anyone would like to help me or plan some events please get in touch we are as always grateful for any support and help.

If anyone would like to follow Lincolns journey with duchenne we write a blog:
