Ostomy awareness is extremely important and close to my heart. The purple wings charity are an organisation that help support people like me, who are struggling to come to terms with their ostomy and the drastic impact it has on your life, emotionally, physically and mentally. Over the past few weeks I've received so much negative feedback for being brave enough to stand proud with my stoma bag on show, to simply try and make others like myself feel brave enough to show the world that ostomys are different but there life saving and don't make you any less fabulous.

As many of you know that my battle with Crohn's Diease has been rollercoaster. Over 8 years I've had multiple surgeries, countless hospital admissions, every treatment available for my Diease, multiple complications including a battle against sepsis and at the age of 22 doctors told me there was no other option but to have a stoma bag.

Being so young and having to face the descion to have a ostomy or die was quite frankly heartbreaking. What I soon realised is that there still isn't that much awareness, support or help surrounding Ostomies. Even the leaflets your given in hospital don't prepare you for what's to come.
Fortunately for me my loop ileostomy saved my life and I grew to love it.
9 months later saw me in hospital again, facing my biggest battle yet, I spent 7 long weeks in hospital, where I had emergency surgery to remove my entire large septic intestine and create a new stoma. So here I am no rocking no colon and happy a ostomy saved my life again.

That's why it's so important that organisations such as purple wings exist. They help bring people like myself together, raise awareness, fight for more help and support us when we are at our darkest moment.
