    Story

We're raising as much as we can to help fund therapies to support Marley, age 24 suffering from cancer of the vagus nerve (connecting directly to his brain via CNS).

The Ickleton community has set up this Just Giving page to help one of our own in need. This wonderful family would never expect or ask for financial help but there are times in life when starting such an initiative feels like the right thing to do. Any donations raised through this page would go a little way in helping them financially in these difficult circumstances.

Marley was diagnosed with a Malignant nerve sheath Tumor in Sep 2017. He had just finished Uni in Brighton with a 2:1 in music production. He suddenly was consumed with ear ache, stomach pains, loss of appetite and weight. After many tests he moved back home too ill to function. Even before the diagnosis we had talked about worst case scenario and he already decided if it was Cancer he would not do chemotherapy or Radiation treatment. He had witnessed too many loved ones suffer from the side effects and chose a different path. His oncologist said without treatment Marley was given a year to live but he was so weak and thin he would never have lasted that long. So we needed a plan and with much research he chose surgery to remove the tumour then to stop the 50% reoccurrence rate he would heal his Cancer naturally under the initial guidance of a naturopath but then he was on his own. He was committed 100% to radically change his diet and lifestyle even before the tumour was removed in Nov 2017. The surgeons did an amazing job and even though it was a gruelling 6-hour op the Vagus nerve (vital for digestion, speech and swollowing) had not been damaged. The Tumour was dissected, and another rare aggressive Cancer was found within. Again, the oncologists wanted him to do Chemo and Radiation treatment even though it would not be curative. He politely declined, he healed extraordinarily quickly and continued to get stronger and fitter with yoga, Crossfit, juicing and supplements. He put weight on and looked the best he had ever been. His oncologist kept a good eye on him and monitored his progress and the first 2 CT scans showed no regrowth.

After 8 months he was still doing well but then something changed and although he stayed juicing his energy faltered and at the end of August a CT scan showed the tumour had regrown on the same site. Marley was devastated and in turmoil. He took a few days in the countryside in Ibiza to gather himself and came home determined to shrink the tumour as it was the Cancer had not spread to any other organ, his bloods were good, his liver, kidneys and lungs were all good. Acupuncture really helps the pain in his stomach and a psychotherapist helps him deal with the huge emotional trauma that Cancer brings.
