Story
In the North West Providence South Africa in a poor area of Vryburg is a gem of a centre for disabled children. 53 children with a range of disabilities attend this centre to learn and be part of a close community. At Windermere School we have helped the Thussanang centre for years, we provide them with meals throughout the year and teaching materials to allow the children to interact and bond with one another whilst learning. This area isn't a place where you would go on holiday but the things that are happening for the children of one of their townships called Huhundi is amazing and with continuous support from school members and the public we are aiming to make it even better.
As a current year 11 student I have been offered a place on this once in a lifetime trip and can’t wait to make a difference. Since only 14 people from my year are going on this trip I feel obliged to raise as much money as I can to help increase the development of Thussanang. Throughout this unparalleled opportunity, I will be able to experience a new culture and dedicate my time and effort into some worthwhile projects.
Since 2003 my school has gone out to the centre twice a year. As well as volunteering at Thussanang we will be helping out in the townships soup kitchens. This jewel in a very poor place helps both physically and mentally disabled children and is a haven for smiles and hugs.
Each student that goes on the trip will teach one lesson whilst at Thussanang and this will allow the children to become more confidents around us as we are new faces to them and it will be hard at first due to their disabilities. I intend to hold an artistic lesson in hand and foot paint prints. This is a good opportunity for the children to develop mentally as it is an interactive project that is fun for all.
As well as this just giving page I will be holding various coffee mornings and intend to hold bingo nights and do a sponsored triathlon. Please donate into this so that when I visit in 2019 I can make difference in Thussanang.
Thank you, charlotte x
