OrCam Uses Artificial Intelligence Technology and can read text, recognise faces, identify products and more.

I have been visually impaired from a young age and although I do manage well there are still things I find difficult even with the help of visual impairment aids such as magnification glasses and software on computers it is the things I find difficult I believe the Orcam could significantly improve.

After studying for four and a half years to become a qualified counsellor, I have since returned to University to do a BA hons Degree in Counselling Solutions and alongside this will be doing a separate course to gain the qualification to be able to train others within the Counselling field. Whilst studying previously I struggled with handouts and recognising who my peers were and when they are talking to me. This is something the Orcam will help greatly with, being able to read and recognise faces, as I would then be able to continue course work without the help and support of others to read for me and to know who is talking to me.

Looking towards the future and my career as a counsellor there are also many online courses I would like to do to build my portfolio however I have attempted one of these previously and was unable to complete it as I could not manage to read the text and speech software was unable to read it, these are also things the Orcam would be able to recognise and help me completing the online courses.

All this I feel could help me to become a counsellor with my own private practice which is my overall goal. All though the Orcam could significantly help with studying and working towards a career, I believe the Orcam could also improve day to day living and assist with my quality of life it has the ability to read letters, and also food labels as the amount of times I have opened the wrong tinned food or herbs or spices is endless (needless to say cooking can be interesting sometimes), it can also recognise dates on food such as a products use by date which is always good to know.

As a woman I also enjoy shopping which since having my guide dog Kaisha has become better as I don't have to rely on others so much to guide me, I still must rely on their support to read labels, size, colour and prices. The Orcam could do all this for me and therefore improving my independence. Keeping as much of my independence as possible has always been a major thing for me and anything that can help enhance this has to be worth it in my eyes. After reading this I hope you can also see how much the Orcam will improve things for me.
