Being disabled is incredibly expensive. Whether it is paying for taxis, medication, splints or treatment, it seems being chronically ill is a costly affair. As someone who relies on my wheelchair to get around, replacing the missing electrical components for my powerchair is a necessity. My wheelchair is my freedom, and without it I am isolated or forced to rely on others to push me around which is not fun. The purpose of this crowdfunder is to assist me in replacing the controller and the battery of my powerchair.

After being told that the total cost for a new battery and controller will surpass £1,500, I have no other option than to ask for some financial aid. This is obviously a huge amount of money that I don’t have lying around. I hate asking for help, especially when it regards money, but without these parts, I lose my independence.

I also hope that this campaign will highlight the financial pressures that disabled people have to encounter due to the failings of the healthcare economy. Disabled people should not have to fork out this amount of money simply so we can function at the same level as our abled peers. We shouldn‘t be paying money simply for being disabled.
