The Clayton flats are a pair of twin tower blocks in North West Leeds, contrary to the usual stereotypes of local authorities high rise housing we're fortunate to have a nice friendly community here with a mixed range of people from single people to whole families and oaps (including one lovely older lady who incredibly is one of the only original tenants who moved into the flats when they were first built in 1963!! We've recently been lucky enough to have a complete refurbishment programme costing millions of pounds which has transformed our previously tired looking buildings into sparkling new looking modern apartments. This is great for the aesthetics and overall appearance of our flats, but an equally important part of having a good community comes from people interacting with and knowing each other. So besides having established a residents association in the past year, we've brainstormed some ideas and a common one we've agreed would hugely benefit our community would be shared access to a communally owned and operated minibus. Having the use of a shared vehicle would enormously improve many residents quality of life and would definitely promote communal relations and encourage neighbours to be social by enabling opportunities for shared shopping trips to supermarkets and shops as well as the car boot sales we have locally. Plus, as our oldest resident Mavis has mentioned, we could enjoy occasional trips to the seaside for little money to cover the cost of fuel. According to Mavis back in the 60s and 70s the community would contribute towards chartering a coach or even a whole train for a day out to see the Blackpool lights!! Now we're not getting too carried away to that extent as many residents do own their own vehicles so it may not be for them particularly. However the majority of residents do not own motor vehicles and would greatly appreciate the use of a minibus or even people carrier. So please help us raise our target of £999! Thank you!
