As many of you know I have a home in the small village of Murtas in Granada, Andalucia, Southern Spain. And as much as I love the place and the people, sadly the treatment of dogs, by some people, in rural areas such as these is not so good.

In rural Spain it is often the case that if animals don’t serve a purpose, such as hunting, they are usually disposed of (in various ways).

Whilst I was staying in Murtas last week (First Week of December) this beautiful Podenco appeared. She was skin and bone and looking at the chain around her neck it is likely she has been chained up and left to die (which is fairly common) and has managed to escape and find her way to Murtas.

During the few days I was there, I managed to feed her and spend some time with her, although she wouldn’t let me get too close and is extremely anxious of humans, which is understandable given what she will have likely gone through in her life. She did prove to be non-aggressive with both humans and dogs and would no doubt make a great pet to someone. Unfortunately, due to my situation at home and work I am unable to take her myself.

We have found a shelter two hours away in Malaga, who despite being stretched themselves, are still willing to help her. We are hoping to attempt a rescue in the next week or so to get her into care where she will have the chance of finding a forever home.

The reason for this crowd funder is to try and raise the funds necessary to support this little one (actually for a Podenco is quite tall) as much as possible and to give some much-needed help to the shelter who have kindly offered to assist us. She will no doubt need vaccinations, to be micro chipped and she will need to be spayed. As you can imagine these don’t come cheap. And this is all on top of the basic living costs that she will need.

I know a lot of you are dog lovers and all I’m asking is that if you can spare just a couple of pounds (maybe the price of a cup of coffee). You will be helping to potentially change the life of this beautiful animal who has likely never known any real love or kindness in her short life.
