Story
Cycle 14miles/22km for CodeYourFuture
CodeYourFuture is non-profit organisation that offers training to refugees, asylum seekers and other underpriviledged people to become professional software developers. We're also a community of volunteers that cares deeply about our work and would like you to be a part of it.
Join the team on an enjoyable, scenic, and traffic-free ride along old railway tracks and a canal path to Dumbarton Castle. Some people might not be used to long distance rides and be put off by the length of this ride, but just to reassure you that this is an effortless cycle route, as it’s mainly flat and allows for plenty of stops throughout the journey.
We will start from Bell’s Bridge where National Routes 7 and 75 cross the Clyde (by the Glasgow Science Centre). Further on, the Glasgow Harbour area is being redeveloped and we will follow the diversion signs - this runs along the old rail tracks in York. At Clydebank, the route joins the Forth & Clyde Canal and then passes under the Erskine Bridge, along the village of Bowling where the Canal flows into the River Clyde, Milton and ending at Dumbarton Castle. After a visit to the castle, which is situated on a volcanic rock giving amazing views over the River Clyde, we will make our way back to Glasgow.
We will take the train from Dumbarton back to Glasgow. For some of us, this is where the challenge ends. However, people are welcome to cycle back to Glasgow the same way we came or even continue the ride up to Balloch if they wish.
Google maps estimates that it will take around 1 hour and 30 minutes, however, this is not a race and people can cycle at a pace that they’re comfortable with.
Purpose of the challenge: to pay for renting out a space for our Saturday classes.
Taking part in this challenge is free. If you would like to make a donation or collect sponsorship to support our students you're welcome do so :)
If you can’t make it to Glasgow but still want to take part in the challenge you can create your own route wherever you are, making sure you complete the 14 miles.
