    Story

The Our Land project has a goal to provide a sustainable plan for the Cumwell Lane Fields in Hellaby, Rotherham.

The objectives of the project are:

To raise £2000 for events, surveys and experts - Phase 1 - £350 to support leaflets and drop in sessions prior to 14th Sept 2018 - Phase 2 - £1650 to support surveys, research and events outlined below:

    1. Organise an event to gather ideas for the land

    2. Organise an event to produce a plan

    3. Gain the backing from the Council for the proposed plan

    Our Story

My husband and I moved into the Hellaby area around 6 years ago. We love the close amenities and the fields that surround us. The compromise when buying the home we love was the huge industrial estate across the road. My Name is Rebecca Whyman and some of you reading this will already know that I'm a Parish councillor for Hellaby. Back in 2015 we tried to protect the fields on Cumwell lane to stay with the secure 'Green Belt' status. Unfortunately even with much support from local residents we failed to ensure the land held a green belt status. After almost 300 signatures and contesting comments, which felt ignored, the Rotherham Local plan ploughed ahead. On Tuesday 28th August a welcomed message was sent to me by a friend. The message pointed me to the article about what the land is proposed to be used for. This will sandwich Hellaby between industry and encroach even further onto the surrounding estates in Bramley. Isn't the Maltby Colliery a place that can be rejuvenated or utilised better? Or don't we already have empty warehouses on the already existing industrial estate? We feel that the Councillors in the Borough have failed us and we want to do something about it.

    Our Plan

As outlined with the objectives above we plan on generating ideas on what the local people of Hellaby, Bramley and Maltby want to see in the way of 'Industry'. I refuse to believe that another huge warehouse will generate the kind of jobs that Rotherham is crying out for. We need to actually find out what kind of industry would be sustainable for our roads, our families and our land. Once we have some firm ideas we can take these forward and make a proposal of our own. The only way to stop this monstrosity being built is to raise an alternative plan that will create jobs.

A few people have contacted me and said they tried to donate to this page and were unable to. I'm putting a donation on to test this myself too.
