My cousin, Darren Faulkner, 57 is a hardworking family man who has always provided for his family. At the turn of the year, Darren was unfortunately diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. This is obviously very distressing for the family, his wife Joanne, daughter Stacey and Darren's 4 grand children. Darren's illness is not the only medical adversity he has had to endure. His son Jake and youngest daughter Keighley suffered and died from Cranio-etco dermal dysplasia. Furthermore, Darren's wife Joanne has been incredibly ill with pancreatitis. It is for these reasons I have decided to ride the incredibly tough Fred Whitton Challenge. The Fred Whitton Challenge is a road cycling sportive in the Lake District that takes in some of the toughest road climbs in the UK along it's 115 mile route.
