Disney for Daisy

So, as you may know I’ve entered an Ironman race in Barcelona, 7th October 2018.

What’s an Ironman you might ask? Well, if I haven’t already bored you senseless over the last 12 months here it is-

• Swim 2.4 miles

• Bike 112 miles

• Run 26.2 miles

That’s it really. Get from A to B (in less than 17 hours and 45 minutes unaided). Simples.

During all this I got talking to another Dad at the school gates, Chris Sayers. Now I knew Chris a little from when we went to school and our eldest Daughters are the same age at school and have been in the same class so I knew about the tough time his Family had been going through.

We had talked about some of the events he had planned and how the local community and friends and family had been supporting through things like donating blood, raising awareness and charity events.

I mentioned to Chris that I was entered into the Ironman and that hopefully when the time got closer I would be able to use it to support aswell.

Well, now that time is closer. Less than 2 months, and here’s how you and I can help.

Chris and his wife Melissa have two beautiful daughters, Poppy (8) and Daisy (2).

Last November 2017, Daisy was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia - a condition that progresses rapidly and aggressively.

She has undergone chemotherapy and lumbar punctures, with her treatment changing month to month.

The family regularly attend hospital for the treatment and often have unplanned overnight stays as Daisy could be kept in for something like a raised temperature, as she has no effective immune system.

Recently, I dropped my daughter off to their family home to attend Poppy’s 8th Birthday party, and Chris casually mentioned that he’d had a 4 night unplanned hospital stay the previous week with Daisy. Yes, I say casually, as on the outside looking in that’s what they make it look. Always positive, always looking forward. I would be inside out…

Chris told me that they had been told Daisy’s medication and treatment plan would become stable soon. This would mean that they would know when, where and how the treatment would be given, allowing them to have a more regular routine and life.

Knowing this information and when Daisy is well enough, they want to take a well-deserved family holiday to Disneyland.

So, I’m asking you to dig deep, take a moment to digest, and pledge what you can to support Daisy and her Family. They deserve it.
