    Story

due to the the hight of the canal walls along the bridgwater canal, local wildlife is becoming trapped in the waters and drowning. Increased construction work in the area has also forced wildife to try and cross the canal causing more deaths. Since the start of spring high numbers of roe deer have drowned in the canal, along with smaller mammal and ducklings.

There has been some success using ramps in other areas that have also had this problem, but due to deers cautious nature many of them refuse to use the ramps and drowned anyway.

The solution is to install floating platforms of vegetation along the banks of the canal so that the wildlife can climb them to exit the water. As the vegetation is natural the deer will be more inclined to trust and use them. Also by using natural plants they will improve water quality, provide shelter for fish and other wildlife and also be aesthetically Pleasing. There are a number of UK based companies that provide these platforms and infact smaller version of this idea have been used in the canal outside the royal bridgwater hall.
