My granddaughter Isabella stopped walking aged 16 months old after waking one morning with a very swollen knee. over the next few weeks her walking became worse till she was unable to weight bare on it anymore, after many visits to the dr's and our local A&E isabella was sent to southampton hospital where she was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis in several of her joints hands feet knees etc. And within a week had her first joint injection under general anesthetic they were hopeful this would sort it out and started her on a course of meds. Isabella is now 8 yrs old and has been barely pain free. Shes had 15 joint injections under general anesthetic. And tried several different chemo based medications. No child should have to suffer this cruel diease but unfortunately many do. Southamptin hospital have been amazing with her over the years specially her nures specilist Sarah. Who not only makes every child feel like her most special patient but spends much of her spare time raising funds to bring a little happiness into these childrens lives with a large summer fair, christmas parties where she invites not only the children but their whole families all paid for out of money shes raised herself from cake sales 200 mile bike rides etc. so this year im running the brighton marathon in the hope i can raise some money to donate to one of the many wonderful events Sarah buts on for these children who live with the pain of this awful diease every day.
