Weʼve raised £232 to help fund new Neighbourhood Watch street signage in Denton West

    Story

The Denton West Ward Homewatch scheme has been running for more than 30 years by a group of dedicated Dane Bank residents, with the support of the neighbourhood policing team and the local councillors.

We’ve been through a lot of changes over the years, and, after a recent request from the police to expand the area we cover, our group is now the biggest and most successful scheme in Tameside, covering an area that contains almost 3000 houses.

But we need to raise our profile on the estate.

We currently have some of the old Homewatch street signs on the estate. What we want to do, is replace these with the bigger, more eye catching Neighbourhood Watch signs, as well as introduce signage to roads that don't currently have any. Our old Homewatch street signs are out-dated, weathered, small, and there simply aren’t enough of them to let both residents and would-be criminals know that Dane Bank is a strong community looking out for each other’s safety and wellbeing!

We need a total of 100 signs to complete the project, with each sign costing just shy of £24. This is a huge undertaking and, for us to carry out the project in the way that we want to, it's something we need the entire community to get behind.

Neighbourhood Watch and Homewatch schemes have proven really successful right across the country, with research showing you are between 17% and 25% LESS LIKELY TO BECOME A VICTIM OF CRIME if you are a member (British Crime Survey), and the street signs act as a vital deterrent to that crime.

Regardless of whether you pay to be a part of the scheme, we want every street on our estate to house a bright yellow Neighbourhood Watch sign so ALL residents will benefit.

We always try to keep our yearly subscriptions as low as possible for our members, but the consequence of that is that big projects like this leave us struggling financially. So we need some help.

We need to raise £1500 to be able to complete the entire project properly, just 50p per house on the estate, so please believe us when we say every single penny counts!

This really is a project that would benefit the entire community, so please donate to our cause if you can and spread the word on social media!

    Thank you!
