- Funded on Monday, 11th March 2019

Story
This is an appeal in an attempt to raise up to £105,000 to cover the costs of medical treatment for my wife Claire, involving 2 years of treatment using a drug called Olaparib as a prevention of the return of ovarian cancer, which currently the NHS cannot fund as it has not yet been approved by the regulators. It is currently scheduled for review in May of 2019 following incredibly successful trials, however this is too late for Claire as the treatment needs to start within 8 weeks of the last chemotherapy which was 30th November.
An offer has been provided by the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough to provide the treatment on a self-funding basis at an approximate cost of £4,500 per month.
Claire is only 55 years old. She is an amazing person and has so much more to contribute to this life and truly deserves every chance to get through this.
We are committing what limited savings we have to get this off the ground and I intend to carry out as many fundraising activities as I can to make it a success. Any contribution you make will bring additional hope to my quest to ensure Claire lives the life she deserves as a wife, a mother, a friend, a daughter, a sister and, perhaps someday, a grandparent.
Should at some stage NHS funding become available or it is deemed no longer necessary to complete the course of treatment, it would be my intention to donate any remaining monies to Cancer Research UK.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
Best Regards,
Edward Docherty
